So, so, so, I've mentioned these guys before in a previous blog after seeing them at The Great Escape festival down in Brighton earlier this year. They really were something, a totally hypnotic, pulsating slice of awesome electronica, ideal for you know, sweatily moving your feet and cultivating mandibles the size of North Yorkshire.
Firstly, they're playing @ The Garage, London on Friday 18th November for free, get yourself a packet of Chewits and a footspa for the morning after: LINK
Secondly, I questioned how well this might translate to record and now I've got my answer, that answer being "Get f$%ked mate, it's proper on record too". It's on now on DFA records, listen then go buy...

So, I've finally got around to starting the project of compiling a bunch of mixes based on my record collection. I intend to pick out some choice cuts of every style that's influenced me over the 20 odd years I've been collecting music, so expect some old school hiphop, electro, house, jungle, breaks, soul & funk, it'll take a while so bear with me, especially considering I've not done a mix for several years.
I've started with some music that I've been enjoying recently, including a few tracks I played at Glastonbury this year, hence it being mix number 10. It's pretty much made up of chunky, glitchy, electronic beats in the downtempo region of 100-105bpm.
If you're still rocking a walkman, this'll fit nicely onto one side of a C90!
Enjoy

I've just taken delivery of the beautiful gatefold (2x12") album "Keep Warm With The Warm Digits" by Warm Digits and it's a real treat indeed!

One highlight for me was finally getting to see Factory Floor who I really enjoyed. The 3 piece is made up of live drums, synth/electronic bassline arpeggios and guitar/voice/pedals/fx - they deliver ice-cold, stripped down, metronomic grooves and drones which are both dancey and slightly unsettling at the same time.
I'm not sure how well this translates to record but definitely a band to see live in a dark, dingy, industrial basement at stupid o'clock. Check out their upcoming gigs and get out there if you wanna get your sleaze on.

Philip Glass did an amazing soundtrack to the film Notes on a Scandal. So amazing, in fact, that it manages to overwhelm the double-barrelled acting power-blapse of Judi Dench & Cate Blanchett. That's just how Glass rolls. He's a big hitter.
The demo below is a sketch of a hip hop track made from samples of the Notes on a Scandal soundtrack. We're looking for vocals - singing, an MC, arthouse wailing, whatever you think works. The track is just a demo, everything can change if the idea is right.
We've got a project lined up to take 3 movie soundtracks and convert them into 3 mini EPs. Give us a shout if you want IN.

We've started this blog to launch a thousand projects. If you want to collaborate on anything, get in touch. Still lacking confidence? Worried this is some kind of trick? Then why not use The 9000's handy "should I get in touch?" Q&A below:
Q: We're a band with our own material, we want to record a demo.
A: Get in touch mate.
Q: I'm a vocalist, I write songs but I'm scared about getting in touch.
A: Mate, seriously, just get in touch.
Q: I'm an MC, I do UK hip hop. I won't get in touch, it's not your area.
A: MATE. You're standing in our area. With your dirty grime boots on. Wipe your feet, then get in touch.
Q: I'm every other type of person. I want to do every other type of thing that isn't covered above. What should I do?
A: GET IN TOUCH MATE. FUCKS SAKE.
You get the picture. To spur you on, we'll be posting up bits on a regular basis. If you hear anything you like then.... well, get in touch, innit?
